Thermal Injury, cognitive impairment and aging:
Lessons from insects in nature
My research addresses two major goals in integrative biology. The first is to understand (a) the frequency and consequences of stress exposure to organisms in their natural environments and (b) the cellular and physiological mechanisms mitigating such risks. The second is to understand the relationships between behavioral development, behavioral intensity, aging, the onset and pace of senescence, and the cellular and physiological mechanisms that determine the limits to longevity. In my seminar I’ll be describing my research on the thermal ecology and cellular stress response of Drosophila to address the first goal, and the cellular and physiological underpinnings of behavioral development in honey bees to address the second goal.
