Brian Largo
Brian Largo Brian is a student worker in the lab and has just started this year. He is supervised by Erin, and Brian and Erin make sure that everything runs smoothly!!

Erin Juneau Senior Undergraduate Student Biological Sciences.
Erin Juneau Erin Juneau is starting her third year in the lab and has been primarily a student worker who keeps everything in the lab running smoothly with her lab maintenance and organizational skills. However, she also helps out on projects as she is needed. Currently, she is purifying plasmids from a variety of transformants that Tracy has generated and is characterizing the inserts possessed by these plasmids. When this work is completed, she will commence studies on the sequencing of the inserts that are of the most interest.

Mark, Chris, Karl and Cassandra comprise the nano group in the lab. They are conducting research in association with MTU's nanotechnology research group on the development of new biosensors. The goal is to use the specialized membrane protein bacteriorhodopsin, produced by the Halobacteria, as an integral part of the biosensor. Their work focuses on the growth of the Halobacteria, purification of the "purple membrane" containing bacteriorhodopsin and the modification of this protein

Christina and Derek are both working on aspects of the naphthalene assimilation problem in P. fluorescens. Christina is purifying mRNA from glucose and naphthalene grown cells and will use this mRNA to conduct Northern Blots with cDNA sequences from Tracy's cDNA library. Derek is preparing a library of plasmid DNA from a megaplasmid that is present in P. fluorescens. The goal here will be identify specific genes by sequencing the DNA.
