Dr. Rita Colwell speaks at Michigan Tech on 'Global Infectious Diseases in an Era of Bioterrorism'

 

 

 

Dr. Rita Colwell visited Michigan Tech Monday and Tuesday February 20 and 21. During her visit she had numerous discussions with Faculty, staff, and students in the Biological Sciences Department and the Sustainable Futures Institute.

On Monday evening she presented in the Van Evera Distinguished lecture series “Global Infectious Diseases in an Era of Bioterrorism” in the Rozsa Center. Sponsored by Michigan Tech Department of Biological Sciences, and the Sustainable Futures Institute.

Dr. Colwell is Chair of Canon US Life Sciences, Inc., and Distinguished University Professor both at the University of Maryland, College Park and at Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. She served as the eleventh director of the National Science Foundation from 1998-2004 and in that capacity served as co-chair of the Committee on Science of the National Science and Technology Council.

Dr. Colwell spearheaded the agency's emphases in K-12 science and mathematics education, graduate science and engineering education/training and the increased participation of women and minorities in science and engineering.
