CHASSELL TAKES
FIRST PLACE IN MICHIGAN TECH BIO-ATHLON
High school students
from Chassell Township Schools took first place in the 16th annual Bio-Athlon,
held May 4 by Michigan Tech's Department of Biological Sciences.
Westwood High in Ishpeming
took second place while West Iron County took third.
Teams from 18 U.P.
high schools dissected a shark, solved genetics problems, identified organisms
in the field and studied how white blood cells attack bacteria.
A workshop was also
held for the accompanying biology teachers.
Funding for the Bio-Athlon
was provided by Admissions, the Department of Biological Sciences, the
Michigan Tech Fund, and MTU alumni Mark Cowan, MD, and Robert DellAngelo,
MD, both of Marquette, and Olive Kimball, DEd, PhD, of Bartlett, Ill.
