Department of Biological Sciences Welcomes New Faculty Karyn Fay, MS MT(ASCP)SH Karyn Fay graduated from Lake Superior State University (1975) with a BS in Medical Technology. She did her internship at St. Mary’s hospital in Saginaw, Mi and was certified as a Medical Technologist, MT (ASCP). She has worked in many disciplines over the years and in a variety of places. In Virginia, she worked as a generalist. In Florida, she worked in a plasmapheresis clinic and then in a reference laboratory working mainly in steroid chemistry and fluorescent microscopy. In Arizona she worked in microbiology doing related immunology and virology.
In 1989 she graduated from Michigan Technological University with a MS
degree in Biological Sciences. She then went on and took correspondence
courses and sat for the Hematology Specialist Exam and was certified by
the ASCP. She then worked at Keweenaw Memorial Medical Center in Laurium,
Mi as the Hematology Supervisor and took on the Point of Care supervisory
role as well. She was also on the advisory board for the Clinical Lab
Science program of Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mi.
Karyn is married (Barry Fay) and has two grown children, Rob and Anne.
She is very involved in her church where she serves as a Deacon. In her
free time, she enjoys running, reading, traveling and watercolor painting.
