For the study of fish ecology and macroinvertebrate
ecology in lakes, rivers and streams of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
The
Fish Ecology/Aquatic Ecology Research Group is part of the Department
of Biological Sciences at Michigan Technological University.
We
are located in the new DOW Environmental Sciences Building on beautiful
Portage Lake canal.
Casey Huckins manages the "Fish Ecology"
Lab. Research in his lab addresses aquatic community ecology, riparian
ecology and functional morphology of fishes.
Casey's
current research projects focus on two broad areas:
1) Relationships among riparian fish and macroinvertebrate communities,
stream habitat, watershed conditions and forest management; and
2)
The ecology and restoration of native fishes such as coaster brook
trout.
Individual
research projects and graduate students doing research in aquatic
ecology have links highlighted on the Graduate
Student Page.
