Department of
Biological Sciences
The courses required
for the minor in biochemistry constitute a comprehensive introduction
to the properties of biologically important molecules, mechanisms,
and the processes and provide the student with extensive information
as well as practical laboratory experience. Major topics include
the chemistry and purification of proteins, enzymes and enzyme
kinetics, intermediary metabolism and regulation, bioenergetics,
membrane structure and function, mechanisms and regulation
of protein, DNA, RNA and polysaccharide synthesis and current
techniques in gene cloning and protein engineering. |
