Department of Biological Sciences

The courses required for the minor in biochemistry constitute a comprehensive introduction to the properties of biologically important molecules, mechanisms, and the processes and provide the student with extensive information as well as practical laboratory experience. Major topics include the chemistry and purification of proteins, enzymes and enzyme kinetics, intermediary metabolism and regulation, bioenergetics, membrane structure and function, mechanisms and regulation of protein, DNA, RNA and polysaccharide synthesis and current techniques in gene cloning and protein engineering.
