Title:   Comics, Seriously

Comics are not often thought of as serious. But they have always had serious functions and effects on their readers. Many comic strips (Pogo, for example) have commented on political figures and situations, and others (Calvin & Hobbes, for example) have commented on everyday issues like schooling or parenting. Comics are also often used as instruction books or to promote products and industries. You will read about the history of comics, analyze the rhetoric of comics and graphic novels, and draw a comic strip of your own in order to answer the question of what work comics do in our society.
