Title:   Abraham: Father of Strife or Father of Peace?

Islam, Judaism, and Christianity all claim to believe in the same, One God, yet religious differences are at the heart of many of today's world conflicts. Why is this? This course will explore both the potential for common ground and the significant differences between these three monotheistic religions, and will focus on the complex literary figure of Abraham, "Father of the Faith" to all three faiths.

Through history of religion and philosophy, literature and memoir, we will examine this topic from the perspectives of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian authors, scholars, and journalists, always with the goal of answering this question:  Can the religions become a source of peace, rather than strife, in the Middle East and around the world?
