Class Description Fall 2006 - Section R59
Title: Endangered Species: Law, Science, and
Ethics
This course takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of endangered
species by looking at the issue through the lenses of law, policy, science
and environmental ethics in domestic and international contexts. Some of
the questions we will address include: Should we attempt to prevent the
extinction of various forms of life and if so how? Which do we choose to
save? How do we balance the goal of protecting species with other goals?
Students will also become familiar with endangered species laws such as the
Endangered Species Act and the Convention on International Trade in
Endangered Species.
