Class Description Fall 2006 - Section R41
Title: The Brave New World
Written in 1932 Aldous Huxley's Brave New World depicts a distant
future that has disturbing parallels with the world we live in today.
Cloning, custom designed human beings, drug use, loss of individuality and
death are common themes in the book. Today, we hear reports of human cloning;
of parents making genetic choices about their unborn children; and of medical
treatments that not only cure disease but also alter our moods, the way we
think and will perhaps allow us cheat death. Have we become Huxley's
Brave New World? We will explore this question through analysis of Huxley's
novel and current publications in both the scientific and popular press.
