Outstanding
Young Alumni
James D. Brodeur
B.S. 1968 Conferred 1978 (updated
June 2004)
Even before he received his M.D. degree in 1972, Jim Brodeur had
resolved to practice family medicine in his native Copper Country
and to encourage other young doctors to join him in serving the
area’s needs.
Quality as well as quantity of medical care in the Portage Lake
area dramatically improved after his return in 1974 and, although
Jim retired from family practice in 2001, his energy and leadership
are in evidence everywhere in this progress.
In addition to his practice, Jim served as Chief of Staff for Portage
Health Systems, was named to the Michigan Hospital Association Council
on Physicians and was a multi-year recipient of the AMA Physician
Recognition Award. He was a charter member of the Portage Lake Hospice
Board and serves on the Copper Country United Way Board. At Tech,
he is serving on the Alumni Association Board of Directors (2002-2008)
and is also a Michigan Tech Fund Life Trustee.
