Susan Skochelak, MD, MPH, is the senior associate dean for academic
affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Medical School
and a professor of family medicine. Primary work has been in developing
new models for medical education including community-based educational
experiences, interdisciplinary courses, and communication and
patient care management skills. She led the development of a four-year
longitudinal generalist curriculum for medical students and was
the principal investigator for two prestigious national medical
education demonstration grants.
Professionally, Skochelak has served as director of the Wisconsin
Area Health Education Center (AHEC) System, the chairperson of
the Consortium for Primary Care in Wisconsin and as a member of
the governor's Rural Health Development Council. She has also
served on national medical advisory committees and has served
as an educational consultant for many medical schools and private
foundations. She has been recognized for her educational achievements
through the UW Chancellor's Award for Distinguished Teaching,
the Distinguished Service Award from the State Medical Society
of Wisconsin and the Patient Care Award for Innovations in Medical
Education.
