Keith N. Apelgren

MD (1974) University of Michigan – Residency training in
surgery at the University of California-Davis from 1976-1980.
He completed a Surgical Nutrition Fellowship, Brigham & Women's
Hospital in Boston (1981-1983). Dr. Apelgren is a Professor &
Residency Program Director, College of Human Medicine, Dept of
Surgery, Michigan State University. His clinical interests are
general and endoscopy surgeries, surgical nutrition, and trauma.
Research interests are nutrition, endoscopy and ethics.
Dr. Apelgren is active in numerous professional organizations,
including the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic
Surgeons where he served as chair of the Standards of Practice
Committee. He has participated in training programs throughout
the country for professionals who train endoscopic surgeons. Clinical
experience includes a clerkship in Liberia, West Africa, and surgical
consultancies in Mexico, Ecuador and Zambia. He is certified in
Surgical Critical Care through the American Board of Surgeons
and is a certified instructor for the Advanced Trauma Life Support
Program.
