The Environmental Microbiology Laboratory is primarily involved with studies on the role and uses of microorganisms to address pollution concerns.  Related studies in microbial toxicology assess the mutagenic and toxic properties of air, being used to degrade organic pollutants present in groundwater and air using innovative systems designs.  Studies are also ongoing on the potential toxicological properties of particle and vapor phase associated pollutants from diesel emissions.
